Discuss your circumstances

About this service

An EU long-term residence permit allows indefinite residence in Poland for eligible people from outside the EU, including people without citizenship.

The general rule requires at least five years of qualifying legal and continuous residence. Income, health insurance and Polish-language evidence requirements also apply.

The permit is indefinite, but the physical residence card has a validity period and must be replaced.

Good to know

  • Not every period of residence counts in full, and absences can affect whether your residence is considered continuous.
  • Time under temporary protection does not count towards the qualifying residence period.
  • Qualifying residence on a CUKR permit starts counting from collection of the CUKR card, rather than from the earlier UKR protection period.
  • The language requirement uses specified evidence, and an age-related exception applies.
  • Since 27 April 2026, EU long-term residence applications must be submitted electronically through MOS.
  • Until 4 March 2027, decision time limits are suspended for covered residence cases handled by a voivode. Cases continue to be processed.

Questions about this service

01When can I apply for EU long-term resident status in Poland, and what documents do I need?

You can usually apply after at least five years of qualifying, legal and continuous residence, if you also meet the income, health-insurance and Polish-language requirements. Not every period counts: time under temporary protection is excluded, while residence on a CUKR permit can count. Your documents normally include passport scans, a photo, residence-history and income evidence, insurance, accepted language evidence and proof of your right to occupy your home. We can check your qualifying dates and document list at a consultation.

02What should I do if my residence permit application has been pending for a very long time?

Start by checking the case status, any requests from the office and whether all required documents and formalities are complete. As of 12 October 2026, decision time limits for covered residence cases at voivodeship offices are suspended until 4 March 2027, and ordinary remedies for delay are restricted. The available next step depends on your case and the procedure involved. We can review the file and possible steps at a consultation.

03When can I apply for Polish citizenship, and what are the main requirements?

The earliest application date depends on your route and residence history. One common route to recognition requires at least three continuous years in Poland on permanent residence, EU long-term resident status or a right of permanent residence, plus stable regular income, a legal right to occupy your home and accepted evidence of Polish at B1 or above. Other recognition routes have different conditions, and a presidential grant is a separate procedure. We can check which route and application date fit your circumstances at a consultation.
